Alfonso Villegas

Having tried many jury and bench trials and argued before the Vermont Supreme Court, Mr. Villegas is an experienced legal writer and litigator. He is a former Vermont prosecutor and Assistant Attorney General. He served on the Board of Managers for the Vermont Bar Association, taught many CLEs for the VBA, and chaired committees for the benefit of the Bar and public. He joined the firm in 2026.

Overview

Originally from Florida, Mr. Villegas moved to Vermont to attend law school in South Royalton. There, he participated in the criminal law clinic and interned in the Windsor County and Rutland County State Attorney offices where he developed his passion for litigation.

In 2017, he started at the Washington County State Attorney Office as a deputy. There, he prosecuted all manner of crime, with a particular focus on felony level DUIs, drug investigations and prosecutions, and the Washington County Adult Drug Treatment Court. He served on the committee for Vermont’s first Statewide Policy Manual for Drug Treatment Courts.

In private practice, he worked on civil litigation matters, including probate, contracts, and business disputes. He also worked on administrative law matters and appeals to the Vermont Supreme Court.

As an Assistant Attorney General, Mr. Villegas provided general counsel and litigation services to Vermont’s Agency of Transportation. He worked on Act 250 litigations, contract reviews, and various administrative law matters.

He has served on the Vermont Bar Association as a Board Member for many years. He has chaired the Diversity Section and the Workforce Development Committee.

He is a cinephile, enjoys reading sci-fi, and an avid board game player.
